Dr Kurt Straif MD, MPH, PhD
Head Evidence Synthesis and Classification International Agency for Research on Cancer, World Health Organisation
Dr Kurt Straif directs the programs of the IARC Monographs, the IARC Handbooks of Cancer Prevention and the WHO Classification of Tumours. His research focuses on occupational and environmental risk factors for cancer. He serves on several national and international committees on primary and secondary prevention of cancer. He has a long record of teaching medicine and epidemiology and is the Scientific Director of the IARC International Summer School on Cancer Epidemiology since 2010.
He is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Occupational, Environmental and Social Medicine. He was a Resident and Research Fellow in Internal Medicine, University of Bonn, 1984-90; Visiting Scientist, Dpt. of Environmental Sciences, School of Public Health, Columbia University, New York, 1991; Assistant Professor, Institute of Occupational and Social Medicine, University of Giessen, 1991-95; Assistant and Associate Professor, Institute of Epidemiology and Social Medicine, University of Münster, 1995-2001, and works at IARC since 2001.
