Professor Lou Chesler MD
Professor at the Institute for Cancer Research
Dr Louis Chesler is a clinician-scientist PhD MD who trained in the USA NIH Clinical Scientist Training Programme (MSTP) as an academic clinician. He trained at University of California San Francisco and NCI as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist and scientist. He devotes 85% time to research, leading a translational research effort as a Professor of Paediatric Cancer Biology at the ICR. The goal of the research effort there is to improve outcome in difficult-to-treat paediatric solid tumours, through identification of novel genomic drivers of cancer, development of novel preclinical cancer models and evaluation of promising therapeutic approaches in preclinical trials, with a specific focus in neuroblastoma and medulloblastoma. He is an honorary consultant at Royal Marsden where he focuses on development of innovative therapeutics, molecular prescreens, pharmacodynamic biomarkers and clinical trials for children with oncogene-driven relapsed cancers.
His specific current interests are in targeted treatment of MYC and ALK driven cancers.
